GIVING BACK

We continually give back to our community by donating to the various grass roots organizations. Many of which are listed below:

You help us make a difference. Tips are not expected or accepted, therefore in lieu of tips, you may donate to our student advanced education fund and our ongoing efforts to raise money for charity and grass roots organizations like the following:

Project Daymaker - www.projectdaymaker.org

"Our mission is to partner with individuals and organizations to help build self esteem and self confidence in people they touch ultimately assisting them in building a new and better way of life."

Frederic Holzberger, owner of Fredric’s Corporation, and formally the exclusive Distributor of Aveda Lifestyle Products to salons and spas in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana, met Sr. Bonnie Steinlage in 1992 at an educational hair event. He learned about her dream to provide the poor and homeless with haircuts at satellite beauty care centers. Frederic was so inspired that he immediately donated the necessary products to help make Sr. Bonnie successful. Her vision became his inspiration for Project Daymaker™.

Taking her concept one step further, Frederic decided to create a mobile salon that could travel to the people who would benefit from its services. He designed and customized a Winnebago, had it outfitted with three stylist stations, a shampoo bowl, a stress relieving station and a reception area. With the support of Aveda salons within Fredric’s distribution region, Holzberger launched Project Daymaker™ and his mission became a reality.

As a custom-designed mobile salon, Project Daymaker™ travels primarily throughout the midwest region to help those less fortunate. The 34-foot Winnebago salon partners with social service organizations and salon volunteers to provide beauty care services and personal hygiene education to those in need. In an effort to build self-esteem and self responsibility in the people they touch, Aveda salon volunteers donate their time and services, ultimately hoping to assist these individuals into the work force.

Volunteers are fulfilled by providing the most basic of human needs, the power of touch. As caretakers, volunteers are able to restore human dignity, while grateful clients enjoy the caring service they receive. For the poor and homeless, the boost to their self-esteem is the first step towards building a new, better way of living. This gift is invaluable, precious and improves all life.

Breast Cancer Research Foundation - www.bcrf.org
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is an independent 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and genetic research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health. In 2006, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be approximately 212,920 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women in the United States, and 1,720 in men. An estimated 40,970 women and 460 men will die from the disease. According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer accounts for about 15 percent of all cancer-related deaths in women in the nation.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised more than $125 million – over $25 million in fiscal year 2005 alone – to support clinical research at cancer centers across the globe conducting the most advanced and promising breast cancer research into new therapies and genetic links that will help lead to prevention and a cure.

In October 2005, the Foundation awarded over $22 million in new grants to more than 110 researchers across the United States and in Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Israel.

Major accomplishments in breast cancer research have been made possible by grants from BCRF. Several new drugs are in pre-clinical or clinical development, and more than six different vaccines to treat and prevent breast cancer are also being tested.

BCRF has received exceptional recognition from several organizations that monitor and provide comprehensive, unbiased information on charities. Most notably: in 2006, the Foundation has received the highest rating from Charity Navigator, four stars, for the fifth consecutive year, which means BCRF has outperformed 97% of more than 5,000 evaluated charities in efficiently managing its finances! The American Institute of Philanthropy has awarded BCRF an "A" rating in its Charity Rating Guide since 2002. BCRF is recognized by AIP as one of the "Top Rated" cancer organizations, and it is the only breast cancer organization to appear on its "Top Rated Charities" list. In December 2004, Money magazine named BCRF one of America’s top eight charities.

The Foundation welcomes and depends on contributions from all those concerned with women's health. Working together, we know we can find a cure in our lifetime.

Habitat for Humanity - www.habitat.org
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry. Habitat welcomes all people regardless of race, religion ethnicity or any other difference–to build simple decent, affordable houses for those who lack adequate shelter.

Since its founding in 1976 Habitat for Humanity has built more than 200,000 houses, providing shelter for more than 1 million people, in nearly 100 countries around the world. A new Habitat house is completed somewhere in the world every 24 minutes.

Habitat affiliates work locally in communities around the world to select and support homeowners, organize volunteers and coordinate house building.

Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay their mortgage and their willingness's to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or national origin.

Habitat is about to make housing affordable to low-income families because: Houses are sold through a no-profit mortgage. Individuals, corporations, faith groups and others provide vital financial support. Homeowners and volunteers build the houses themselves, under trained supervision.

March 12, 2006 Aveda Fredric's Institute Grand Opening - Frank Hartman of the Habitat for Humanity in Indianapolis accepts a check from Frederic and Julie Holzberger. The $20,000 contribution helped restore and renovate two separate houses into homes for two families in Indianapolis.

United Plant Savers - www.unitedplantsavers.org
United Plant Savers' mission is to protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come.

These Are Exciting Times for Herbalists. We are witnessing the art of herbalism rapidly regaining its rightful place in the American tradition of health and healing. However, as herbalism flourishes and winds its way into the "main stream" of America, it is eliciting a unique set of problems and concerns. Where once only a small handful of people wildcrafted plants in the wild, ever increasing numbers are now heading to the hills.

Where once herbal enterprises were few and far between, now the competition often forces one to focus on the need for larger production and greater diversity of herbal products, thus utilizing more plant resources. Furthermore, other countries with an uninterrupted tradition of herbal healing are experiencing a severe shortage of medicinal plants and look to the North American continent for supplying these herbs. This increased usage along with habitat destruction is causing an ever-increasing shortage of plant resources, including some of our most treasured medicinal species.

Our work, the work of United Plant Savers, is to research, educate and protect in the interests of our plants and their habitats. We hope that you will join us in this worthwhile and important mission.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." --Margaret Mead
